REACHnet welcomes Sutter Health: Expanding patient populations and data-driven research possibilities
LPHI’s REACHnet team is excited to welcome Sutter Health as the newest partner in REACHnet, officially joining our Clinical Research Network as a PCORnet® Network Partner in 2025. With the addition of Sutter Health, REACHnet now spans eight health systems across Louisiana, Texas, and California. Existing partners include Baylor Scott & White Health, DHR Health, Ochsner Health, Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, Tulane Medicine, LCMC Health, and the University of California, San Francisco.
Sutter Health’s partnership significantly broadens REACHnet’s geographic and demographic scope. Serving communities across Sacramento, the Central Valley, East Bay, San Francisco, and Silicon Valley, Sutter Health bridges urban and rural regions in northern California. With a patient population of over 5 million, their addition increases REACHnet’s total patient population to more than 18 million, expanding research representation.
Sutter Health is no stranger to PCORnet®, having participated in two PCORnet® Studies, including the COVID-19 Citizen Science (CCS) Study and the PCORnet Blood Pressure Control Laboratory. Their contributions underscore their capacity for executing large-scale, data-driven research that addresses critical healthcare challenges and improves outcomes for diverse populations.
More than an expansion, Sutter Health’s inclusion marks a transformation for REACHnet. Their not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system includes 26 hospitals, 33 ambulatory surgery centers, 11 cancer centers, and 5 trauma centers, providing unparalleled research resources. Sutter’s expertise in specialties like cardiology, oncology, neurology, and orthopedics further strengthens REACHnet’s ability to tackle complex clinical questions and generate meaningful, patient-centered insights.
Krishna Karuturi, Director of Research Data and Analytics at Sutter’s Center for Health Systems Research, sees REACHnet membership as an opportunity to expand Sutter’s research and data science impact. “This transformational partnership greatly improves access to clinical research studies for our patients and our ability to accelerate improvements in patient care across the nation.”
Thomas W. Carton, LPHI Chief Data Strategy Officer and Principal Investigator for REACHnet, is enthusiastic about Sutter Health joining REACHnet. “Sutter Health is an elite healthcare institution with a well-established research office and track record for impactful, patient-centered research. With both Sutter and UCSF participating, we have an extremely strong California patient and research presence for REACHnet.”
