Advancing Research with Upgraded Common Data Model

LPHI’s REACHnet team is pleased to announce an upgrade of the PCORnet Common Data Model (CDM) from version 6.1 to version 7.0. This update is driven by the need to better support Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and Maternal Morbidity and Mortality (MMM) research, and expands our LPHI’s ability to capture Social Determinants of Health (SDoH), Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs), and Patient-Generated Health Data (PGHD) within REACHNet. For Example, Key Enhancements in CDM v7.0 allow for capturing patient-reported medications alongside those prescribed or administered in clinical settings to give a more complete picture of a patient’s medication profile, and enable efficient familial linkages like mother-baby relationships, offering clearer insights for maternal-child health and other care scenarios. Additional elements in v7.) allow the REACHNet infrastructure to expand SDoH elements, such as data on alcohol use, postpartum depression, housing stability, intimate partner violence, physical activity, education, and employment. Other expanded fields capture the impact of pain on daily life, physical function, mental health status, and other quality-of-life measures.

Looking Ahead

Upgrading to PCORnet CDM v7.0 paves the way for more comprehensive and patient-centered research. These new data elements and processes support nuanced analyses while enabling more robust patient-reported outcomes. LPHI looks forward to collaborating with our partners and patient communities to leverage these improvements in available data to support studies that will offer insights into more equitable and effective healthcare.
