Hurricane Katrina devastated all 5 SBHCs that were providing much valued services in Orleans Parish. In the past 3 years, SHC and its partners have worked to maintain, relocate, or establish 9 SBHCs and 4 school-linked community clinics in the Greater New Orleans area. In addition, we are planning for at least 5 addtional SBHCs in the Greater New Orleans Area.

*School-linked Community Clinics are facilities located on or near school properties that serve both enrolled students and the surrounding community. These clinics are primarily characterized by a community-based model of care as opposed to a school-based model. Consequently, although these clinics extend access to students, the facilities do not fit the traditional definition of a school-based health center.

In addition, plans are currently being made to place SBHCs in the following schools:

~ John Ehret High School, Jefferson Parish Public School System
~ Sarah T. Reed High School, Daughters of Charity
~ Walter L. Cohen Senior High School, Tulane University Department of Pediatrics
~ Warren Easton High School, Tulane University Department of Pediatrics
~ L. B. Landry High School, Clinical sponsor TBA
