Steps to a Healthier New Orleans

View the website: StepsLA.org

Steps to a Healthier New Orleans (Steps) is part of the Steps to a Healthier US Initiative, a national, multi-level program that is changing the face of chronic disease prevention in communities across the United States.

Partnered with the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI) and the City of New Orleans Health Department, the Steps program funds communities to implement chronic disease prevention and health promotion programs that target three major chronic diseases: diabetes, obesity and asthma and their underlying risk factors of physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use.

The Steps program employs environmental change, social marketing, community outreach and education strategies to achieve its mission. The success of the program is made possible by its community partners.

The Steps program is about improving lives and helping Americans reduce their risk of chronic diseases and live longer, better, and healthier.

Safe Routes to School National Partnership

The Safe Routes to School National Partnership is a fast-growing network of more than 260 organizations and professional groups working to set goals, share best practices, secure funding and inform agencies that implement SRTS. The Safe Routes to School National Partnerships mission is to serve a diverse national community of organizations that advocates for and promotes the practice of safe bicycling and walking to and from schools throughout the United States. The Partnership is governed by a Steering Committee comprised of organizations and agencies that have been developing SRTS programs and initiatives at local, state and national levels. Partner affiliates utilize their communication channels to spread the word about SRTS opportunities, news, challenges and collaborations.
