Communications and Outreach Manager, DHHCDPC
Job term: Full Time - 1 year with possibility of extension based on available funding
Job region: Must be able to spend 3 days/week minimum in Baton Rouge office (9-5)
Position Summary:
The Community Transformation and Coordinated Chronic Disease Communications and Outreach Manger will play a significant role in the daily management of LPHI’s Division of Media and Communications’ contract to manage communications and outreach efforts on behalf of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals Chronic Disease Prevention and Control unit (DHHCDPC). Strong project management, community outreach management, paid and earned media campaign management, social media campaign management, creative thinking, and partner coordination skills are required. The position will be responsible for serving as the primary liaison between DHHCDPC and LPHI’s Division of Media and Communications.
Areas of oversight:
- Communications and outreach planning
- Strategic messaging/talking points development
- Copywriting/content development for print
- Copywriting/content architecture development for web
- Development/management of social media presence
- Identification and coordination of earned media opportunities
- Community forum logistics
- Working to ensure cohesion/coordination across multiple projects
- Corporate partnership management
- Additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years related professional experience
- Public health/health communications experience
- Community outreach experienced preferred
- Experience researching/implementing chronic disease prevention best practices
- Experience in developing internal/external marketing plans
- Experience in marketing budget planning
- Public relations experience
- Media advocacy experience
- Copywriting for print and web experience
- Professional social media/online social network development experience
- Experience networking with and coordinating state and community partners
- Experience managing and meeting multiple deadlines in a fast passed environment
Specific Duties:
- On behalf of DHHCDPC, develop and coordinate implementation of an effective, streamlined community outreach/engagement and marketing plan – to support identified program goals/objectives
- Organize/plan weekly meetings with client to develop the above referenced plan and monitor/track/document progress
- In association with DHHCDPC, identify and facilitate appropriate earned media and PR opportunities to be supported by LPHI division of media and communications
- In association with DHHCDPC, assist in coordination of community form logistics
- In association with DHHCDPC, develop streamlined talking points to facilitate TCP staff and contractors’ ability to effectively speak about DHHCDPC initiatives to various community members/media, etc.
- In association with DHHCDPC, identify and develop outreach materials and develop and print any new collateral/print pieces in association with LPHI Division of M&C
- In association with DHHCDPC, develop new website content structure and write/edit website copy (website to developed/hosted within DHH’s existing website infrastructure)
- Develop/manage DHHCDPC’s social media strategy
- Develop/coordinate/facilitate meaningful information sharing among DHHCDPC program and partners via list-serves and other TBD channels
- Develop monthly progress reports to provide updates on progress
- Coordinate approval process with DHH’s Bureau of Media and Communications for developed press releases and promotional materials
- Other related duties as assigned
